On February 17, 2009 President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, known as the stimulus bill. Included in the legislation is a provision allocating $27 billion to the states for road and highway spending. The Waterfront Coalition supports projects, to be selected by each state, designed to promote freight mobility. These projects will increase employment in the short and long term while improving the efficiency of the nation's freight network. Transportation projects that reduce freight congestion may result in further long term job creation by reducing supply chain costs and allowing other stakeholders in the supply chain to grow and expand employment while increasing our international competitiveness.
